Flat roof windows

When you think of roof windows, you probably picture a sloped roof – but homes with flat or low-pitched roofs can also enjoy the same daylight and fresh air from above. VELUX flat roof windows are made with exactly that in mind. They’re designed to bring natural light into flat-roofed spaces, making rooms feel brighter, more spacious, and more welcoming.

Whether you’re updating a kitchen, hallway, or single-story extension, the space next to it often lacks access to natural light, these windows are a smart way to open up your home to the sky above.

Let the light do the work

There’s something about natural light that just transforms a room. It lifts your mood, makes spaces feel bigger, and reduces the need to keep the lights on, which can help cut down on your energy use, too. Because flat roof windows bring daylight from directly overhead, they’re perfect for areas that often feel a little dark or enclosed.

And the difference isn’t just subtle – a roof window can let in up to three times more daylight than a vertical window of the same size. With VELUX, you also get great design and solid performance, so there’s no need to compromise on comfort or looks.

Options to suit your space

Every home is different, and so is every project. That’s why VELUX flat roof windows come in a range of designs to suit your needs. Whether you just want to bring in more daylight or you’re looking for added ventilation, there’s a solution that fits. From fixed panes to openable models, and even versions with smart controls, you’ll find options for all kinds of spaces and budgets, all designed to fit beautifully and work seamlessly with your home. Let’s take a look at the options:
Curved glass rooflight
For completely flat roofs (0° pitch), the curved glass rooflight offers something special, both functionally and visually. Thanks to VELUX’s innovative CurveTechTM design, rainwater runs off the glass naturally, so you always get a clear view of the sky. It’s ideal if you want a window that performs well in all weather conditions and looks great from both inside and out. Furthermore, the elegant curve adds a standout element to the glass rooflight, making it a focal point in modern homes.

Flat glass rooflight
If you’re going for a clean, contemporary look, the flat glass rooflight is a great choice. With a sleek, minimalist frame and a glass-to-edge design, it sits beautifully flush with the roof and floods your room with daylight. It’s perfect for modern extensions and flat-roofed living spaces and can be installed on roof pitches from 2° to 15°.

A dome with glazing is another smart way to enjoy plenty of natural light from above. With the advanced double glazing, which consists of an integrated two-layer insulating glass unit with inner laminated glass, you can enjoy good indoor comfort.

All VELUX flat roof windows are available in either fixed (non-opening) or openable versions, depending on your needs. If all you want is more light, a fixed unit will do the job. But if you also want to improve indoor air quality and reduce humidity, especially in kitchens, bedrooms or bathrooms, go for an opening model.

Opening or fixed – it’s your choice

All VELUX flat roof windows are available in either fixed (non-opening) or openable versions, depending on your needs. If all you want is more light, a fixed unit will do the job. But if you also want to improve indoor air quality and reduce humidity, especially in kitchens, bedrooms or bathrooms, go for an opening model.

You can choose from:

  • Electric opening: Our electric and solar glass rooflights, as well as our electric domes with glazing, come with a wall switch as standard for easy remote access. For your peace of mind, these electric or solar-powered flat roof windows also all include a hidden motor and rain sensor which automatically closes the roof window when it senses raindrops.
  • Manual opening: For our dome with glazing, you have the option to manually open the roof window with a handy telescopic rod if you need to open the roof window occasionally.
  • Fixed: An easy and effective solution if your primary aim is to naturally brighten your home inside.

All opening models let you enjoy fresh air on demand and help regulate indoor temperature naturally, especially helpful during warmer months.

More comfort with built-in smart features

VELUX flat roof windows can be more than just a source of light. With smart home integration, they can help make your home healthier and more comfortable, without lifting a finger.

VELUX ACTIVE with NETATMO is a smart control system that monitors temperature, humidity and CO₂ levels in your home. It automatically opens or closes your roof windows and blinds to maintain a comfortable indoor climate. You can also control your windows via your smartphone, which is especially handy when you’re not at home.

The finishing touch that makes all the difference

Once your flat roof window is in place, adding a blind is a great way to make the space feel even more comfortable. Whether you want to block out light for a better night’s sleep or just soften the glare on sunny days, there’s an option to suit.

If you like to keep your glass rooflight open, you can also add our insect screen to keep out insects as well as to catch falling leaves. It is also compatible with our other blinds.

Go for blackout blinds in bedrooms, pick a translucent blind for the dome with glazing in the living area, or choose an anti-heat version to help keep things cool in the summer. All VELUX blinds are made to fit your window perfectly. See our blinds for flat roof windows here.

Designed to last, backed by VELUX quality

When you choose VELUX, you’re investing in lasting quality. All flat roof windows are made from durable materials, rigorously tested, and built to stand up to the UK’s changing weather. They’re designed for minimal maintenance and come with long-term guarantees:

  • 10-year guarantee on flat roof windows
  • 3-year guarantee on blinds and shutters
  • 5-year guarantee on electrical components (extendable to 10 years with registration)

That’s peace of mind built into every product.
