One of the world’s most acclaimed designers, Welsh-born Ross Lovegrove is the mastermind behind the VELUX sun tunnel by Lovegrove. Inspired by the VELUX vision of creating better living environments through daylight, Lovegrove designed an innovative sun tunnel diffuser to harness the full potential of natural light, and bring the purity and uplifting power of sunlight into the home. “I wanted to create a moment of enlightment in the home – a contemporary interface between the tunnel of light and the interior design of the living space,” says Lovegrove.
Lovegrove’s focus on organic forms and sustainable technology complements the way VELUX products work with natural resources – the sun and air – to bring light to life. Says Lovegrove, “When I was contacted by VELUX, I felt an immediate affinity with their products and way of thinking, which I find human, technologically innovative and democratic.”
A renowned industrial designer, Lovegrove has completed projects for SONY, APPLE, Airbus Industries, KARTELL, VITRA, TAG HEUER, Herman Miller, BIOMEGA, Japan Airlines and many more. His work has been shown all over the world, including exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art and Guggenheim in New York; the Centre Pompidou in Paris; and London’s Design Museum.
The recipient of numerous international design awards, Lovegrove was awarded the World Technology Award by Time Magazine and CNN in 2005, and the prestigious red dot design award the same year. His design for the VELUX sun tunnel won a medal at BATIMAT's "Les Trophées du Design" in 2009, and it was also awarded the "red dot design award - best of the best 2010" distinction for the highest design quality.
