Marketing hints and tips

1. Identify likely areas for business
It is relatively easy to spot neighbourhoods where roof windows were installed in 60’s and 70’s, and may be coming to an end of their natural lifespan. Typically these might include residential suburban areas of cities and towns, with a high proportion of bungalows.

Tools such as Google Earth can be used to spot high concentration areas in your locality.

2. Tell people you’re in the area

Post flyers through the doors of these neighbourhoods detailing your experience of replacement roof window projects and contact details. If it is an area where you have not carried out work before, an affiliation with some kind of trade body such as FENSA (only in England and Wales) or even FMB can often help to reinforce your credentials.

Local press advertising can also play a part, particularly in smaller towns, where there is a strong local newspaper.

3. A job well done? Shout about it.
Ask satisfied customers if they are willing to recommend you to friends and neighbours. Don’t be afraid to ask if you can also use them as referees when speaking to other potential customers. Personal recommendation is probably the most powerful new business tool at your disposal.
