Our national photography competition Lovers of Light has launched for the second year running - the chance to capture a moment of daylight and win a once-in-a-lifetime prize.
At VELUX, we celebrate daylight every day. Lovers of Light aims to inspire people to appreciate light and the important role it plays in our everyday lives.
Now in its second year, Lovers of Light entrants are invited to submit a landscape photograph that creatively interprets daylight in any form. From cityscapes and mountain scenes to sea views or even the glimpse from a bedroom window, VELUX is challenging professional and amateur photographers alike to think differently about one of our most precious natural resources and capture a moment that brings light to life.

During the summer months, the sun doesn’t set north of the Arctic Circle which means it’s pure daylight for 24 hours.
An expert panel of judges will select one overall winner who will receive a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two to the remote Nordenskiöld Coast, Norway. The all expenses paid, five day trip includes accommodation at the Isfjord Hotel, a former telecommunications station which has been transformed into a luxurious modern getaway. Surrounded by the breath-taking Nordic landscape, our winner will get the chance to witness the natural phenomenon of the midnight sun.
The winner and their guest will also enjoy a dogsled ride as they take in the picturesque views of the Arctic Ocean and a boat trip to Barentsburg to visit the deserted town of Pyramiden.
We’ve also introduced a mobile phone category this year to give aspiring winners the opportunity to capture their precious daylight moments on the go. The mobile phone category winner will receive a cutting edge Lytro camera, featuring impressive technology that can record the entire light field instead of the usual 2D image made by standard cameras.
Images must be submitted before 31 January 2014 to have a chance of winning the prizes and winners will be revealed in March 2014.
