This cookie policy covers www.velux.co.uk. In the following referred to as the “website”.
A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers downloaded on to a device (e.g. computer hard disk, telephone) when a user accesses certain websites. Cookies allow a website to recognise the user’s device and help the website remember information regarding your preferences (e.g. the language you selected) so you do not need to repeat selection of your preferences each time you enter the site from a particular device. Most major websites use cookies.
How this site uses cookies and the information we collect
Two types of cookies are used on this website:
- Session Cookies. These are temporary cookies, which only exist in the period you access the website (or more strictly, until you close the browser after accessing the website). Session cookies help the VELUX website remember what you chose on the previous page, thus avoiding having to re-enter information. On our website, these cookies do not contain personal information, and cannot be used to identify you.
- Persistent Cookies. These are cookies, which remain on your device after you have visited our website. These cookies help us identify you as a unique visitor (by storing a randomly generated number) and help us remember the products you selected in your shopping cart when returning to our website and in case of multi-language sites, the language you selected.
The length of time a cookie will remain on your device will depend on the type of cookie. On our website, these cookies do not contain personal information, and cannot be used to identify you.
On this website, we use persistent cookies in the following cases:
Language selection: if the website offers the possibility to choose between different languages, a cookie is stored so that you do not need choose your preferred language each time you return to our website. The cookie is stored for 6 months.
Shopping basket: when you create a shopping basket, we store a cookie with a randomly generated identifier (consisting of numbers and digits) that identifies the basket you created. If you do not complete the purchase and return to our website at a later stage, we use the cookie to retrieve the previous basket so you do not need to go through the purchase flow again. Cookies remain on your device for 12 months.
Tracking Cookies: which are used to provide meaningful site traffic reports about the usage of the website. Velux use tracking cookies to improve site usability as well as constantly provide more relevant content to our users. The sole purpose of tracking your behaviour is to make Velux’ websites easier to use for everyone. An example of such a report is what proportion of visitors complete a purchase, or leave before reaching the shopping basket. We use two business partners to manage this tracking – Google Analytics (read more at http://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/analytics/index.html) and Webtrends (read more at http://www.webtrends.com/Products/Analytics.aspx). Tracking cookies remain on your device for 6 months.
