In the past when you've tackled projects in conservation areas or in listed buildings, you'll no doubt have been frustrated by the limitations as to what you could achieve with the roof. On other projects, using roof space can create a wealth of possibilities as dusty old attics become wonderful new rooms. But the more sensitive projects, where the planning focus is on conservation, have been much more limited. With the VELUX Conservation Roof Window System, your options are endless.

A REAL ROOF WINDOW WITH ALL THE BENEFITS OF BACKGROUND VENTILATION

Perhaps the most significant development with the VELUX Conservation Roof Window System is background ventilation. With traditional skylights and rooflights, it just isn't possible to comply with building regulations for background ventilation in habitable rooms. Naturally that places all kinds of restrictions on what you can then achieve with the roof space. But because our Conservation Roof Window System has a ventilation bar which allows for background ventilation when the window is closed, you can create truly habitable rooms in the roof space.

TRADITIONAL DESIGN TO SUIT THE MOST SENSITIVE PROJECTS

Of course, VELUX already offers a wide range of roof windows with background ventilation. But the difference with this roof window is that aesthetically, it fits into very traditional designs.  It comes with external black metal profiles and a central glazing bar (mullion) and blends in beautifully in old properties. That’s an important consideration in sensitive conservation projects. Notably, its use has been accepted by English Heritage in the recent development of St Saviour’s Church in London.

RECESSED FIT TO BLEND WITH THE ROOFLINE

The VELUX Conservation Roof Window System fits the roofline perfectly. Two versions are available; a centre pivot roof window and a top-hung, emergency escape or access roof window. Both types achieve a near flush fitting thanks to a special recessed flashing.

On the centre-pivot, a near flush fitting is achieved using the SD5N1 variant for flat roofing material up to 8mm and roof pitches from 35°-90°.  The SD5P1 is specifically for plain tiles in roof pitches of between 25°-90°. Whereas the SD5W1 variant is for flat or profiled roofing material of up to 120mm and roof pitches from 15°-90°.

For the top-hung, the maximum roof pitch for installation is 55°. However, the addition of special springs increases the installation angle to 75°. Again, choose the SD5N1 variant for flat roofing material up to 8mm or the SD5W1 variant is for flat or profiled roofing material of up to 120mm.
